Donkeys in the news. Donkey sanctuary and Lions led by donkeys. Felt the need to paint a donkey.
Here is the start, the first draft to give placement, some idea of colours, highlights and shadows. I rarely draw first, usually going straight to paint either with a brush or knife. I like the looseness that gives.

It is a bit of fun but nevertheless is a work painted with care, of many layers, creating texture and depth. I ended up painting 3 donkeys in different positions, with the idea to paint one more. The originals are available through this gallery without words, but prints will be with humorous sayings and proverbs, and available through my redbubble shop which holds some more fun type work.
